I went on cherry-culture.com the other day since they send me a 20% promo code and found this new product from NYX. They are now making an eyeshadow base. The price is $6. I went ahead and ordered it because I’ve been using Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (purchase at Sephora for $17) and I’ve been trying to find a more affordable alternative. I just think $17 is too much money to pay for a freaking eye shadow primer.
In looking for a more affordable primer I tried L’oreal De-Crease Eyeshadow Base (which sells for about $7 to $8) and it was absolutely horrible – FAIL! It’s just very drying on my lids and made my powdered eyeshadow very hard to blend. So am going to try NYX eyeshadow base and I seriously hope that I have good results with it, because even though the UDPP works well, am just not happy with the price for the amount of product you get. I plan to wear the UDPP on one lid and the NYX Base on the other and see how long it keeps my eyeshadow from ceasing and fading vs the UDPP. I will let you guys know the good, bad and the ugly. |

I too was not happy with how little UDPP was in the container. But I was surfing blogs one day and found that if you are handy with a knife, you can cut open the bottle and retrieve about 2x as much product as you could normally. I just store mine in a plastic makeup jar (a la dollar store) and it lasts just as long! I dont want to try and post a link here, but just search for ‘cutting open UDPP’ or something of the sort. You won’t be sorry!
@ katie – thanks for the tip, I appreciate that!
ohh I can’t wait for your review! I LOVE NYX shadows (I have a ton) I hope their base is as good as their shadows!
Urban Decay seems to definitely be the best for eyeshadow primers!
But I do agree, $17 is nuts for a primer.
Even I think Smashbox is too expensive
Katie, you are right, I do the same thing to my UDPP and I get tons more out of it.
I like both the Urban Decay and Too Faced primers but the cost of them can hurt my pocket book. I hope the NYX base works just as good, it will help save us all some money.
Oh, please do update on how it is. I’m looking for a new primer as well.
@ MakeupVixen – that’s what I’m hoping for. I will let everybody know as soon as my product arrives.
Fdiary, let me know how this turns out. I also use UDPP and $17 is way too high. But I found a woman on YouTube who bends the wand a bit and gets most of the primer on her wand.
I also just dab a bit on my lid and blend. I also make sure I store it upside down so anything that’s in the tube goes to bottom.
I’m going to try Katie’s suggestion though!
@ MoniMoni – I will because I really do not want to spend close to $20 for a product that is not even going to be seen. I ordered the skin tone version, so very excited to receive it and see how it blends, etc.
I’m glad you are doing a review on this, please let me know because I use Too Faced eye shadow insurance and I’m also looking for something a little cheaper
I have never used a primer before. Does this really make that much of a difference? My eye shadow does look bad at the end of a long day . Would a good primer keep it looking fresh for a 10-12 hour day?
@ Erin – you betta ya!! Eyeshadow primer changed my life. A good eyeshadow and lip primer is gold!! It makes your eyeshadow last longer and it also makes the color thats in the eyeshadow pan look that way on your eye lid. I highly encourage you to get a good eye shadow base. Urban Decay and Too Faced are some of the best in my option. There is also a primer available through MAC as well. I’m trying to find an affordable base because all the ones I mentioned above, in my opinion, are pricey because of the amount you get (which is not much).
oooh i’ve been thinking i probably need some eyeshadow primer myself.. i hope it works out!
omg PLEASE update us on how the nyx eyeshadow base works! ive been wanting to order it since i ran out of my udpp but im not sure how it will compares.
ohh honey looking forward to your review darling!
have a fab weekend

You know, even without an eyeshadow base, I bet they look awesome just the way they are.
I’ve been doing the same thing lately! I hope the NYX brand works well..
Yes. I would love to know. I am using primer from Victoria’s Secret and I like it. I am a fan of NYX shadows and gloss so I am curious to see if this is any good. Cherry Culture is the best place for NYX products!
